Ensuring Dignity Depends on Time and Duty: Justice Dinesh Maheshwari

Jaipur. The Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Law University, Jaipur, organized its first Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Law Lecture today. Justice Dinesh Maheshwari (Chairman, Law Commission of India, and former Judge, Supreme Court of India) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker. The lecture was titled “Data, Dignity, and Destiny: Rethinking Social Justice in the AI Era.” Distinguished attendees at the lecture included Hon’ble Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma (Acting Chief Justice, Rajasthan High Court), Prof. (Dr.) Nishtha Jaswal (Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Law University, Jaipur), and Virendra Kumar Verma (Registrar, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Law University, Jaipur). The University entrusted the responsibility of organizing this event to the Kanodia School of Law for Women, Jaipur. All 80 law colleges participated in this program.

On this occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Nishtha Jaswal delivered the welcome address and shared her thoughts regarding Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. She shared her views on Ambedkar’s life and legacy, emphasizing that he accorded the highest importance to human dignity. Describing the Constitution as a living reality of modern times, she encouraged everyone to internalize its principles. In his presidential address, Hon’ble Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma commemorated Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar’s 135th birth anniversary by recalling his immense contributions. He noted that in the contemporary era, data and AI play a pivotal role in decision-making. He stated, “Dignity is the soul of our Constitution, and it cannot be compromised.” In his speech, he also highlighted the profound statement: “Education is not merely a means of livelihood, but an instrument of liberation.”  In his address, the Chief Guest, the Honorable Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, stated that “ensuring dignity depends on both the times and one’s moral duty. Our future hinges on how we utilize data today.” He highlighted the constitutional values enshrined in the Preamble to the Constitution. Social justice is not merely an outcome, but rather a continuous process through which dignity is ensured within society. Without dignity, liberty remains incomplete. He further asserted that political democracy cannot survive without social democracy. When social justice is actively implemented, it serves to restore dignity. Drawing his address to a close, he remarked that the authentic wisdom of the Indian people holds immense significance for us. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Virendra Kumar Verma.
