27 Teams Conduct Surprise Raids in Collaboration with the District Police
157 Cases of Electricity Theft Detected; Fines Totaling ₹82 Lakh Imposed

Jaipur: On Saturday, the Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam (Jaipur Discom) launched a special campaign against electricity theft in Tonk city, in collaboration with the district police. During this operation, vigilance teams were dispatched from the corporation’s headquarters to the four circles of Jaipur, as well as from Sawai Madhopur. From Tonk, 13 teams—comprising personnel from the district police, the electricity vigilance wing, and the O&M (Operations and Maintenance) wing—were mobilized. A total of approximately 27 teams initiated simultaneous surprise raids against electricity thieves at the break of dawn.
The joint teams detected 157 cases of electricity theft. By issuing Violation Report Cards (VCRs), they estimated the stolen electricity to amount to approximately 4.1 lakh units, resulting in the imposition of fines totaling around ₹82 lakh. The joint squads seized a large quantity of illegal cables and proceeded to disconnect the unauthorized electricity connections. In the course of the operation, the teams removed and confiscated nearly three truckloads of illegal cables.
Mahendra Kumar Sharma, Additional Superintendent of Police (Vigilance) for Jaipur Discom, and K.L. Patel, Superintending Engineer for Tonk, stated that the campaign commenced around 4:30 AM and continued until 8:00 AM. The combined teams involved over 250 personnel, including police officers, engineers, and other technical staff from the corporation. They further informed that notices are currently being issued to the individuals involved in these cases, requiring them to deposit the imposed fines. Legal cases will be registered at the Anti-Electricity Theft Police Station against those who fail to deposit the fine amount within the stipulated timeframe.
