Cultural Evening at Bikaner House

The State View, Jaipur(Sunil Sharma)      During the 11-day ‘Rajasthan Utsav’ (Rajasthan Festival)—running until March 25th at the Bikaner House complex in New Delhi—performances of Rajasthani folk songs and Kathak dance by folk artists from the state added a vibrant splash of entertainment to the festivities.

At ‘Rangat’—a cultural evening organized by the Rajasthan Department of Tourism as part of the festival—folk songs presented by the renowned Rajasthani folk artist Magada Khan from Barmer and his 12-member troupe left the audience spellbound. Catering to the preferences of the visitors present, the folk artists entertained the audience with a spirited repertoire of songs performed in the authentic Rajasthani style.

The festival also featured a captivating Kathak performance by Ms. Sukriti Agarwal and Ms. Bhitika Raheja—artists from Delhi’s renowned Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra. Performing to the composition ‘Ithlati-Balkhati’ by the world-famous Kathak maestro Pandit Birju Maharaj, they enthralled all the visitors; the excited audience members were seen recording videos of the performances.

On the occasion of the festival, visitors flocked to the stalls set up by RUDA and Rajeevika, where they enthusiastically purchased various handicraft products created by Rajasthani artisans. Additionally, the food court witnessed a massive turnout, with visitors seen savoring the delicious and famous culinary delicacies of Rajasthan available at the various food stalls.

To keep visitors engaged and excited during the remaining three days of the festival, a variety of cultural events and traditional sports competitions have been organized. These events will include puppet shows, a ‘Dhola-Mumal’ themed fashion show, folk dance and singing competitions, a ‘Safa Bandhan’ (turban tying) contest, a three-legged race, ‘Rumal Jhapatta’ (handkerchief snatching), and tug-of-war competitions. Men and women from all walks of life are welcome to participate in these competitions by registering free of cost. Winners will be selected in accordance with the rules by a panel of judges appointed by the organizing committee and will be honored with awards.
