Jaipur. Minister of State for Home Affairs Jawahar Singh Bedham said in the Assembly on Tuesday that special instructions have been given to the police to curb vehicle thefts in Tonk district and efforts are being made to apprehend vehicle thieves and quickly recover stolen vehicles by forming special teams. He said that, as per the instructions of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, the police are working to effectively control such incidents and will ensure the speedy identification and recovery of stolen vehicles.

The Minister of State for Home Affairs was responding to supplementary questions posed by MLA Ram Sahay Verma during Question Hour. He stated that in connection with the stone-pelting and firing incident at Hira Chowk in Old Tonk on March 6, a case, Case No. 28/2026, has been registered at Old Tonk Police Station under various sections: Sections 151 (2), 151 (3), 190, 115 (2), 126 (2), 125, 351 (3) of the IPC, and Sections 3 (1) and 3 (2) of the SC/ST Act. Three accused have been arrested in this case, and a juvenile has been detained. Seven other individuals have also been arrested under Section 170 of the IPC. He stated that no proposal is currently under consideration to open a police post in the community hall. He stated that an investigation will be conducted into the illegal encroachments on government land, and action will be taken against the culprits as per the law.

Earlier, in a written reply to the original question, the Minister of State for Home Affairs stated that a total of 1,433 vehicle theft cases were registered in Tonk district from 2021 to 2025. Of these, vehicles have been recovered in 377 cases, while 1,056 vehicles remain to be recovered. He also placed on the House’s table a station-wise breakdown of individuals arrested in vehicle theft cases and the vehicles recovered from them.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Jawahar Singh Bedham stated that a total of 119 vehicles—two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and heavy vehicles—are currently parked at the Baroni police station under various cases. Due to space constraints within the police station premises, some vehicles are stored in vacant space outside the premises. These vehicles are released and disposed of periodically as per court orders. In the future, the delivery or auction of pending vehicles will be conducted through a committee constituted as per the rules, and pending vehicles will be disposed of expeditiously.
