Chief Minister Should Meet the Sick and Resolve the Crisis

Jaipur. Former Minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas stated that hundreds of people in Sushilpura have fallen ill from drinking contaminated water—a consequence of the negligence and corrupt practices of the State Government, the Municipal Corporation, the Water Supply Department, and the local BJP MLA. More than two dozen people have been hospitalized. For the past two months, residents have been deprived of drinking water, and the government has failed even to arrange for water tankers. With the simultaneous disruption of sewage lines, water pipelines, and roads, a severe crisis regarding commuting, drinking water, and sanitation has emerged for the region’s population of over 50,000. He warned that if the government fails to arrange for water tankers by tomorrow, strict action will be initiated against the concerned government officials. Khachariyawas demanded a high-level inquiry into this entire episode. He pointed out that a tender worth ₹10 crore was issued to demolish and reconstruct a road that was already in perfect condition—a blatant misuse of public tax money, representing the hard-earned income of the citizens. During the day, residents had protested against the road demolition, asserting that their road was in excellent condition; subsequently, yielding to pressure from the local MLA, the road was demolished under the cover of night. The demolition process resulted in damaged sewage lines and water pipelines, triggering the current crisis of contaminated water and associated issues. The problem of contaminated water has now assumed alarming proportions; if teams from the Health Department are not immediately deployed to the area, it could lead to a major public health tragedy. Under these circumstances, the Chief Minister should visit the region to assess the health of the hundreds of sick residents, ensure their recovery, and make immediate arrangements for the supply of clean drinking water. Residents of Sushilpura—located merely one kilometer from the Chief Minister’s residence—are languishing in hospitals due to contaminated water, while the people remain desperate and yearning for a supply of clean water!
