Discussion on women’s safety held at the Police Headquarters: Decline in crimes against women is a good sign

Jaipur. On Monday, to mark International Women’s Day, an important meeting was held at the Police Headquarters to discuss women’s safety, crimes against women, and social challenges. Chaired by National Commission for Women Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, the meeting discussed various issues in detail, including innovations related to women’s safety and efforts to control crimes against women.
*Increased Reporting: A Symbol of Awareness and Positive Change*
During the meeting, Women’s Commission Chairperson Rahatkar stated that recent presentations have shown a decline in crime statistics against women, which is a positive sign. She noted that there has been an increase in the rate of women filing complaints in certain categories, reflecting the growing awareness of the law in society and the growing confidence of women. He said that if reporting is increasing, it should not be seen as a negative but as a healthy social change, as women are now coming forward openly to advocate for their rights. Referring to crime statistics, he said that recent data for the years 2024, 2025, and 2026 show improvement in cases registered against women, which is a result of the dedicated efforts of the police and administration. Referring to cyber crimes, he said that these cases involve not only crimes against women but also large-scale financial fraud, which requires strict monitoring and vigilance.On this occasion, the initiative of the Rajasthan Police to appoint nodal officers for the National Commission for Women at the state and district levels was commended. Rahatkar said that increased communication and coordination between the police and the Commission can lead to better outcomes in matters of women’s safety.
*Counseling in police stations is crucial*

Commission Chairperson Rahatkar also proposed providing legal training to Anganwadi and Asha workers, who work at the grassroots level for women’s empowerment, so that they can educate women in rural areas about their rights. She also highlighted the important role of NGO counselors in police stations, who in many cases help resolve disputes before police action and provide psychological and legal support to victimized women.
*Women’s Safety a Priority – Strong Action Through the Case Officer Scheme*
At the beginning of the meeting, Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar Sharma stated that the safety of women and children is a top priority for the state government. He stated that crimes against women have steadily declined in recent years and that police investigations have also improved significantly. He added that sensitive cases are being taken up under the ‘Case Officer Scheme’ to ensure swift and stringent punishment for criminals and effective case monitoring. He also explained that innovations like the “Empowered Women, Responsibility Ours” campaign launched by Jaipur Police are promoting safety and awareness among women.
*Emphasis on providing relief to victims*
Member Secretary of the National Commission for Women, Sudeep Jain, also described the decline in crimes against women as good and said that the police and the Commission will have to make more effective efforts together to provide real relief to the victims. He also invited suggestions from the police department for policy decisions and departmental innovations in the field of women’s safety.
At the beginning of the meeting, ADG, Civil Rights Lata Manoj Kumar and SP Harshvardhan Agarwala gave detailed information about the situation of crimes against women in the state, efforts being made, pending cases, etc. through a power point presentation. During this, all senior police officers including DG Traffic Anil Paliwal were present.
*Best women police officers, Kalika Patrolling Unit, and Suraksha Sakhis honored at Police Headquarters*
Monday marked the day of honoring Rajasthan’s best women police officers, Kalika Patrolling Unit, and Suraksha Sakhis at Police Headquarters. On the occasion of International Women’s Day, National Commission for Women Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, at the initiative of Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar Sharma, honored Suraksha Sakhis, Kalika Patrolling Unit members, and female constables from across the state for their outstanding work.On this occasion, Rahatkar said that the honored Suraksha Sakhis are from various sectors of society, including housewives, college professors, Anganwadi workers, Rajivika members, and teachers. These women are actively coordinating with the police and are serving as an inspiration to other women.
*Every woman honored is a ‘real-life hero’ and ‘wonder woman’*

Calling these women ‘real-life heroes’ and ‘wonder women,’ he said that these women are carrying forward Rajasthan’s tradition of bravery and valor. He added that in line with the vision of the DGP of Rajasthan, this initiative has been launched to recognize the commendable work of women, so that other daughters and women can also be inspired.Initially, Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar Sharma stated that only when women are safe, a strong foundation for social progress can be laid. He detailed the robust measures being taken to ensure women’s safety in the state through the RajCop Citizen App, Kalika Patrolling Unit, Anti-Romeo Squad, and other campaigns and programs. He stated that crimes against women have been steadily declining over the past three years and investigation time has also decreased.The program began with Additional Director General of Police Lata Manoj Kumar providing detailed information about police operations related to women’s safety. She also explained the ‘RajCop Citizen App’ in detail. The program was conducted by Additional Superintendent of Police Sunita Meena, while at the end, DIG Shweta Dhankhar expressed her gratitude to all the guests and participants.

During the program, female constables, Kalika Patrolling Unit members, and Suraksha Sakhis from various districts of the state were honored with certificates by the Women’s Commission Chairperson.
*Best Female Police Constable (Total 9)*
In this category, female constables selected from various districts of the state who demonstrated exceptional dedication to their duties were honored. Those honoured include Aarti Kumawat (911) from Chittorgarh, Mrs Khetu (2036) from Jaisalmer, Sarita (2288) from Beawar, Reena Arya (1666) from Bharatpur, and Priyanka (9824) from Jaipur South. Apart from this, Pushpa (267) from Khairthal-Tijara, Sonia (Head Constable 35) from Kota City, Sanju (1940) from Bikaner and Kiran (2055) from Jodhpur West have also been awarded for their outstanding services.
*Suraksha Sakhi (Total 9)*
Suraksha Sakhis from various ranges, who serve as a bridge between society and the police, were honored for their commendable contributions. These included Shilpa Jain from Chittorgarh district of Udaipur Range, who scored the highest, Mamta Gupta from Ajmer Range (Beawar), and Murti Verma from Bikaner Range (Hanumangarh). Reena Devi from Bharatpur, Lakshmi Chauhan from Jaipur Range (Alwar), Renu Rathore from Jaipur Commissionerate (South), Shobha Gaur from Jodhpur Range (Barmer), Bindu Tank from Jodhpur Commissionerate (East), and Surabhi Khandelwal from Kota Range (Baran) were also honored with this special honor.
*Kalika Patrolling Unit (Total 18)*

Members of the Kalika Unit, who play a vital role in regional security and patrolling, were also recognized. Santosh and Priyanka from Sri Ganganagar, Maya and Anita from Jodhpur West, and Sharmila and Sangeeta from Jaipur North were honored. Kavita and Mrs. Makol from Alwar, Sushila and Suman from Bhilwara, Archana and Jayshree from Bharatpur, Indra and Rajal from Jalore, Leela and Sunita from Kota Rural, and Shyama (Sauni) Beena from Chittorgarh were honored for their courageous actions.
