Adopting a tough stance on veterinary health services in the state, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has delivered a clear message to officials that there will be no compromise regarding the interests of livestock owners. During a high-level review meeting, the Chief Minister issued explicit directives ensuring that no animal is left out of targeted vaccination drives and that immediate disciplinary action is taken against doctors and staff found negligent in veterinary hospitals.
The Chief Minister stated that animal health is directly linked to the economic well-being of farmers and livestock owners. Therefore, the vaccination campaign must be accorded top priority, with effective monitoring and physical verification of schemes ensured at the field level. He directed that regular and surprise inspections of hospitals be conducted and strict action be taken against employees failing to report for duty on time. Instructions were also issued to adopt a zero-tolerance policy regarding the personal use of hospital medicines and other irregularities.
**Close Watch on ‘1962’ Mobile Veterinary Units**
Directing regular monitoring of the ‘1962’ mobile veterinary services, the Chief Minister ordered the submission of periodic progress reports—broken down by district and sub-division—covering these services, medicine distribution, and the ‘Mukhyamantri Mangala Pashu Bima Yojana’ (Chief Minister Mangala Livestock Insurance Scheme). He emphasized that verification would not be limited to paperwork but would also involve checking the actual situation on the ground.
**Insurance for 23.25 Lakh Animals; Treatment for Over 64 Lakh Animals**
It was reported during the meeting that 23.25 lakh animals have been insured so far under the ‘Mukhyamantri Mangala Pashu Bima Yojana,’ benefiting over 11.16 lakh livestock owners. Meanwhile, more than 64 lakh animals have received treatment through the 536 mobile veterinary units operating in the state, benefiting approximately 17.5 lakh livestock owners. Along with receiving national-level acclaim, this model has also attracted the interest of the Asian Development Bank for study.
Animal Husbandry and Cow Rearing Minister Joraram Kumawat, Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, and senior officials from the Chief Minister’s Office and the Animal Husbandry Department were present at the meeting.
