Jaipur: Under the ‘Shuddh Aahar Milavat Par Vaar’ (Pure Food, Strike on Adulteration) campaign running across the state—directed by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Health Minister Gajendra Khimsar—a departmental inspection team conducted a major raid on Thursday. They targeted a factory in Jaipur’s Kho Nagoriyan area that was manufacturing ‘Natural Brand’ sauces and mayonnaise under unhygienic conditions. Approximately 1,400 kg of food products were destroyed, and 2,280 kg were seized. The firm’s food license has been cancelled due to the discovery of activities violating regulations.
Dr. T. Shubhamangala, Commissioner of Food Safety and Drug Control, stated that a central team from the Jaipur headquarters—led by Additional Commissioner Bhagwat Singh and Joint Commissioner (Food Safety) Dr. Vijay Prakash Sharma—conducted a surprise inspection at the manufacturing unit, M/s Shyam Industries, where numerous violations were found. The inspection revealed that the flooring was broken in places, and the walls lacked tiles or any paint. Medical records for the approximately six staff members present were unavailable. Mayonnaise was being packaged on-site with labels indicating addresses in Bhiwadi and Palam. Excessive amounts of coloring agents were being added to the vegetable sauce, and the starch used for making mayonnaise was stored in completely unhygienic conditions. Dr. Shubhmangla stated that starch and sauce found on the premises were stored in unhygienic conditions and were infested with insects; approximately 1,400 kg of this hazardous material was destroyed on-site. Under the FSS Act, the team collected samples of Continental sauce, green chili sauce, and mayonnaise, and seized approximately 2,280 kg of food products. She noted that due to the gross irregularities discovered, Joint Commissioner Dr. Vijay Prakash Sharma summoned the CMHO (Jaipur-II) and his team of Food Safety Officers to the site, and the firm’s food license was immediately cancelled. The collected samples will be sent to the food laboratory in Jaipur for testing. Further action will be taken in accordance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, once the test reports are received.
The Food Safety Commissioner has also appealed to the public to immediately report any information regarding food adulteration to local department officials. This ensures that strict action can be taken against those manufacturing or selling unsafe food products, thereby preventing any compromise to public health.
