Barmer: Harish Chaudhary—All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for Madhya Pradesh, former Cabinet Minister, and Baytu MLA—addressed a press conference regarding the ongoing actions within a 50-kilometer radius of the border region. He stated that the region’s defining characteristics are its unique sense of kinship (*apnayat*), brotherhood, and social harmony, and that no attempt to undermine these values would be allowed to succeed. He emphasized that while national security is the top priority for everyone, it is inappropriate to use it as a pretext to push a political agenda.

Chaudhary noted that the history of this border region is deeply rooted in the sacrifices, patriotism, and contributions of their ancestors toward national security. He remarked that their forefathers made sacrifices for the sake of the nation, and it is the collective responsibility of all to uphold the region’s dignity. He pointed out that notices—which he termed unconstitutional and lacking a legal basis—are being issued regarding the removal of encroachments, initially within a 15-kilometer zone and now extending to 50 kilometers. He alleged that the border region is currently being turned into a tool for a political agenda to divert public attention from the country’s genuine and critical issues.  Farmers across the country are distressed by rising input costs and the high prices of petrol, diesel, and fertilizers; the youth face an employment crisis; and the future of students is being jeopardized by irregularities in the examination system. Trade and small businesses are also grappling with constant challenges, yet instead of addressing these issues, attempts are being made to divert public attention. Former Cabinet Minister Harish Chaudhary stated that the decision to extend the designated radius from 15 kilometers to 50 kilometers has adversely affected various amenities available to the local population. He alleged that notices are being issued to individuals within this 50-kilometer zone in a manner contrary to the spirit of the law and the Constitution, and that actions are being taken without consulting elected representatives.
He cited specific incidents, such as the coercion of the Bhalgaon Sarpanch’s son into signing documents in the Fagliya Panchayat Samiti area and the harassment of a tribal Bhil Sarpanch in the Dhanau region. He noted that these are not isolated incidents limited to just two panchayats; similar complaints are being received from various other locations. He asserted that actions taken without dialogue with elected representatives and local residents do not align with democratic values or the constitutional spirit.

Harish Chaudhary stated that certain forces seek to weaken the spirit of brotherhood in the Thar region by sowing discord among castes, religions, and communities; however, no power on earth can destroy the region’s unique sense of kinship and social harmony. He affirmed that the people of Thar are prepared to make any sacrifice to prevent the breakdown of this brotherhood and social unity. Appealing to journalists and the general public, he urged that national interest, national security, and border regions be kept above politics. He emphasized that border areas have always symbolized peace, brotherhood, and patriotism and should not be turned into arenas for political disputes. He added that the residents of border regions have consistently contributed to the nation’s security and unity; therefore, their dignity and interests must be accorded the highest priority.  Barmer-Jaisalmer MP Umeda Ram Beniwal, former minister Gafoor Ahmed, Congress District President Laxman Singh Godara, former District President Fateh Khan, former Chouhtan MLA Padmaram Meghwal, outgoing Gadraroad Pradhan Salman Khan, and Youth Congress District President Rajendra Kadwasra, along with numerous other Congress office-bearers and workers, were present on this occasion.
