It has been announced that Jaipur District Collector Dr. Jitendra Kumar Soni will be conferred with the 2025 Sahitya Akademi Award for his acclaimed short story collection in the Rajasthani language, titled ‘Bharkhama’. This highest state literary honor is bestowed annually by the Sahitya Akademi—India’s prestigious literary institution based in New Delhi—upon outstanding works published in 24 recognized Indian languages. The award comprises a cash prize of one lakh rupees, a citation, and a plaque. The Sahitya Akademi Award is regarded as the most prestigious honor within the realm of Indian literature.
With the announcement of the award by the Sahitya Akademi, an atmosphere of joy and jubilation has permeated the Rajasthani literary world. Various writers, intellectuals, readers, and administrative officials have extended their heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Soni on this achievement, hailing it as a moment of great pride for Rajasthan and the Rajasthani language.

Dr. Jitendra Kumar Soni’s short story collection, *Bharkhama*, is counted among the significant works of Rajasthani literature. Notably, in 2016, he received the *Yuva Puraskar* (Youth Award) from the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, for his Rajasthani poetry collection, *Rankhar*. Furthermore, he has received several other significant honors, including the *Sudhindra Puraskar* from the Rajasthan Sahitya Akademi, Udaipur, for his Hindi poetry collection *Regmaal*, and the *Murlidhar Vyas Rajasthani Katha Sahitya Puraskar* from the Rajasthani Language, Literature, and Culture Academy, Bikaner, for his Rajasthani short story collection *Bharkhama*.
Born on November 29, 1981, in the village of Dhannasar (District Hanumangarh, Rajasthan), Dr. Jitendra Kumar Soni currently serves as the District Collector of Jaipur. In addition to writing short stories, poetry, and diaries in both Rajasthani and Hindi, he has made significant contributions to the fields of translation and editing. To date, more than 15 of his books have been published. Dr. Jitendra Kumar Soni is steering his literary journey toward unparalleled heights through works such as *Umeedon Ke Chirag*, *Regmal* (a Hindi poetry collection), *Rankhar* (a Rajasthani poetry collection), *Adios* (a Hindi short story collection), *Bharkhama* (a Rajasthani short story collection), *Yadavari* (a Hindi diary), *Okuhepa* (a Hindi travelogue), *Lagmat* (a Rajasthani diary), *Mhare Paanti Ra Pana* (a translation from Punjabi to Rajasthani), *Dehra Mein Aaj E Uge Hai Aapna Roonkh* (a translation from English to Rajasthani), *Bhanai Ro Marg* (a translation from Gujarati to Rajasthani), *Nirvana* (a translation from Punjabi to Hindi), *Shabdon Ki Seep*, *Adtalis Kadam*, and *Sanagat* (edited works).
This remarkable achievement by Dr. Soni has brought honor not only to the Jaipur district but to the entire state of Rajasthan.
