Government under fire from Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Juli over unfulfilled budget announcements and other issues
The State View Jaipur, Sunil Sharma
During the debate on the Governor’s address in the Legislative Assembly, Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Juli strongly criticized the government. Reading a Sanskrit verse in the House, Juli said that 78% of the promises in the manifesto have been fulfilled, but why were the remaining promises left unfulfilled? Juli said the government is more concerned with showcasing its achievements than actually doing the work. The government gave an 8 crore package to those making promotional videos. Ministers were sent to the districts to highlight the achievements of the past two years, but when a minister was asked about the achievements, he couldn’t name a single one. Juli said, “You did in two years what was done in five years, but you couldn’t mention a single achievement. This is very strange.”

*Current plight of MLAs*
Juli sarcastically remarked that the public doesn’t listen to the MLAs, the ministers don’t listen to the officers, the Chief Minister doesn’t listen to the ministers, and the Chief Minister says that nobody listens to him. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister objected to this, and there was a heated exchange between the two for quite some time. Juli said that in this government, MLAs have to beg the police officers to get their work done. Ministers stand while officers sit; some MLAs are threatening to stage protests, some MLAs are doing something else, but in our government, no MLA had to touch the feet of a police officer. Addressing the Chief Minister, Juli said, “Many of your MLAs are acting like bullies. How does a Tehsildar (revenue officer) talk to an MLA? A poor or new representative is mocked. There is a dispute between your ministers and ministers of state regarding the removal of a village headman, and there is a dispute involving a minister over the removal of a pole.”

*Deteriorating law and order situation*
Juli said that the law and order situation in Rajasthan is deteriorating; gangsters come, shoot people, and get away. Just three days ago, in Sawai Madhopur, a woman who had gone to graze her goats had her legs cut off and her silver anklets stolen, but the government is not taking any action against anyone. Julie said that while public hearings are being held for party workers at the BJP office, where will the common public go for this? Where will a poor person who is facing injustice get justice?

*Enact strict laws on Khejri trees*
Regarding the Khejri trees, Julie said that saints and sadhus are on a hunger strike, and their health is deteriorating, but we are not talking about the Khejri trees. The people of Rajasthan want the Khejri trees not to be cut down, and the assembly should enact a law on this. Raising questions about opening up the Aravalli hills, she asked where we are headed. People in Delhi are having difficulty breathing. The Chief Minister goes to Delhi several times a week and is also suffering from the pollution.

Regarding education, Julie asked why school buildings are collapsing, what is this “Rising Rajasthan” all about, why doesn’t the government explain? What MOUs have been signed, why doesn’t the government disclose them? Julie said, “You are not the owners, you are the trustees of the people of Rajasthan, you have to explain.” She alleged that compensation is not being given in areas where there are Congress MLAs. Raids were conducted on fake fertilizer factories, but how many people went to jail? Finally, Julie said that the education system has been ruined. Transfers are being made even after court orders. Don’t play with the future of the children.
