Delhi. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) submitted a memorandum to the Director of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Prof. Dinesh Prasad Saklani, regarding the delay in payment of NCERT doctoral fellowships, demanding immediate payment of the fellowships that have been pending for seven months. The long pending fellowship is creating difficulties for many researchers dependent on the fellowships in managing their research, academic work, and essential expenses, which is why ABVP submitted this memorandum.
NCERT doctoral fellowships are typically paid on a quarterly basis, but as of August 2026, researchers have not received the fellowships for the past seven months. Affected researchers have contacted the relevant authorities via email and other official channels, seeking clarification on the payment status and a prompt resolution, but no clear official information has been provided so far. ABVP urges NCERT to immediately pay the pending amount and ensure effective arrangements for regular and timely payment of fellowships in the future, so that the academic and research activities of the researchers can continue uninterrupted.
Dr. Virendra Singh Solanki, National General Secretary of the ABVP, said, “The seven-month delay in fellowships for researchers is a very serious issue. Researchers depend on this financial support for their academic and research activities, as well as for essential expenses. Failure to receive fellowships on time not only causes them financial hardship but also impacts the continuity of their research. Institutions promoting research and innovation are expected to provide necessary support to researchers in a timely manner. ABVP has demanded that NCERT immediately disburse pending fellowships without further delay and ensure a clear, transparent, and timely payment system to prevent a recurrence of such a situation in the future. It is not appropriate to leave researchers in uncertainty regarding their basic needs and fellowship payments. We are confident that NCERT will understand the gravity of this issue and take prompt, positive action to provide relief to researchers.”
