A strategy was also formulated regarding preparations for the Panchayat elections.

Jaipur. Speaking to the media after a tribute ceremony held at the Constitution Club, Jaipur, to mark the death anniversary of senior Congress leader and former minister Ashk Ali Tank, Congress leader and former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot leveled serious allegations against the government regarding the current political situation in the state, election preparations, and democratic institutions. He stated that under no circumstances will a situation be allowed to arise in Rajasthan that raises questions about democracy and the impartiality of constitutional institutions.
*Ashok Gehlot became emotional remembering Ashk Ali Tank*

Recalling the political contributions of Ashk Ali Tank, he said that Tank became the state president of the NSUI in 1982. He subsequently held various important positions, including MLA, minister, and Rajya Sabha MP. While serving in organizations like the Youth Congress, NSUI, and the Minority Commission, he worked with complete dedication and strongly promoted the party’s ideology and principles.
Gehlot said that Tank had a wide political and social reach. People from various parts of the country came to pay tribute to him on his death anniversary. He visited almost every district of Rajasthan and established a distinct identity among the common people. Recalling his simplicity, spontaneity, and political connections, he said that the passing away of a dedicated personality like Tank is a great loss to the Congress family.
“Tank was the one who united the people and showed them the right path”*

Ashok Gehlot said that today Rahul Gandhi is giving the message to the youth and the people to move forward unitedly. Leaders like Ashk Ali Tank could not only organize youth but also had the ability to guide them in the right direction. He said that Tank’s political legacy will be an inspiration for generations to come.
*Targeting the government regarding SIR and voter lists*
During his media interaction, Gehlot also raised questions about the country’s democratic system and the electoral process. He alleged that constitutional institutions, including the Election Commission, the judiciary, and investigative agencies, are working under pressure. On the issue of SIR, he said that no one should object to the removal of names of dead or fake voters in the name of correcting the voter list, but the process should be transparent and with all-party consensus. He claimed that the possibility of large numbers of voters being removed from the list is a serious issue. He said that the sudden removal of names of citizens who have been voting for years from the voter list is a matter of concern for the democratic system.

*Congress begins preparations for Panchayat elections*
Regarding the upcoming Panchayat elections, he stated that election preparations were discussed in a meeting with the State Congress President and the Leader of the Opposition. The party will soon convene a meeting of senior leaders and form election and campaign committees at the district and division levels. He added that Congress had raised questions about delimitation during the municipal elections, and now the party will prominently raise these issues in the Panchayat elections as well.
*Questions also raised about delimitation and administrative arrangements*
Congress leader Ashok Gehlot alleged that there has been inequality in the delimitation of municipal bodies and panchayats. He said that in some areas, wards have been created for small populations, while in others, areas with thousands of people have been divided differently. Calling this a serious issue for the electoral system, he said that Congress will take this issue to the public.
“There should be no barricading in elections”

Ashok Gehlot demanded from Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma that if the government believes in transparency, it should announce that no political party will be barricaded in Rajasthan. He alleged that opposition parties are pressured by the misuse of police and administrative power during elections, forcing political parties to resort to such measures as barricading. He also alleged that attempts are being made to pressure opposition leaders and businessmen through notices, raids, and other administrative actions. However, the government or the concerned department has not yet responded to these allegations.
*“Pressure on the police and administration is a threat to democracy”*
Congress leader Ashok Gehlot also raised questions about the transfers of police officers. He alleged that some Superintendents of Police were transferred after the election results and that administrative officials were also being subjected to political pressure. He said that if officials are expected to ensure a political party’s victory, it is natural to question the fairness of democracy. He said that victory and defeat in elections are part of democracy. Sometimes Congress wins, sometimes BJP, but if a malicious atmosphere is created in the electoral process, the consequences can be serious.

*“We will not allow such a situation to arise in Rajasthan”*
Finally, the Congress leader said that to save democracy, citizens from villages to cities must be aware and united. He said that ideology and electoral competition between political parties have their place, but everyone must be serious about democratic institutions and a fair election system. He said, “We do not want such a situation to arise in Rajasthan. It must be stopped.” He also appealed to the ruling party to maintain democratic traditions and the impartiality of constitutional institutions.
