Jaipur: The Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has finally arrested Narendra Meena, the then-Patwari and prime accused in a high-profile ₹30 lakh bribery case, who had been absconding for approximately 9-10 months. The accused, who had evaded arrest for a long time, could not withstand the ACB’s constant surveillance and precise intelligence. On Tuesday, the ACB raided his residence in Champapura, located on Kalwar Road, and apprehended him.
According to the ACB, the complainant had lodged a complaint in September 2025 stating that the then-Patwari, Narendra Meena, had demanded a bribe of ₹50 lakh—ostensibly on behalf of the then-Tehsildar—to process the mutation of his land (approximately 10 bighas) in the Hathoj area. Following an investigation that validated the complaint, the bribe amount was settled at ₹30 lakh, and a plan was devised to collect the money through an alleged intermediary, Vikas Sharma.
*Intermediary arrested while accepting ₹30 lakh; Patwari fled the scene*
On September 21, 2025, the ACB laid a trap and arrested Vikas Sharma red-handed while he was accepting the ₹30 lakh bribe. However, the prime accused, Patwari Narendra Meena, managed to flee the scene and remained beyond the reach of the law for 9-10 months.
*Ignored notices; finally picked up from home*
The ACB had issued a notice to the accused under Section 35(3) of the BNSS, requiring him to join the investigation, but he failed to appear. The ACB kept a close watch on the absconding accused and finally arrested him at his home based on concrete information.Action under the Prevention of Corruption Act
The investigation revealed that the accused, in collusion with an associate, demanded an illegal bribe and conspired to obtain it through an intermediary. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (amended 2018) and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
This operation was carried out by the ACB Special Unit-II, Jaipur, led by Additional Superintendent of Police Vijay Singh, under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General Dr. Rameshwar Singh. Interrogation of the accused is currently underway under the direction of ACB Additional Director General Smita Srivastava and Inspector General S. Parimala. He will be produced before the court to seek police remand.
