Jaipur. Governor Haribhau Bagde stated that Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati offered the *Guru-dakshina* (teacher’s tribute) of eradicating illiteracy and spreading Vedic knowledge. The Arya Samaj, founded by him, played a significant role in the freedom struggle and also provided support to refugees during the partition of India. He undertook significant work for social reform and the organization of society. The ideals he propounded should be adopted in one’s life.

Speaking on Saturday at the 39th Foundation Day celebration of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer, Governor Haribhau Bagde emphasized that students should be taught lessons in civility, morality, and humanity. This would instill the quality of honesty in them. Moral education has been accorded a special place in the New Education Policy. Lord Macaulay had implemented the English education system to keep India enslaved; this caused individuals to drift away from their roots. At that time, over 800,000 *Gurukuls* were operational, but they were shut down. Similarly, various types of cottage industries existed, which were also destroyed.

He remarked that enhancing the intellectual capacity of students would produce talented youth who would demonstrate the prowess of Indian talent to the world. In the recently held NEET examination, Rajasthan ranked second in terms of the number of candidates and first in terms of results. In Uttar Pradesh, 3.28 lakh students took the exam, with 1.70 lakh passing—a success rate of 51.93 percent. In Rajasthan, 1.33 lakh out of 1.92 lakh students passed, marking a success rate of 69.34 percent. He noted that the government has enacted a new law to curb cheating in examinations. This law includes provisions for a fine of ₹10 crore and severe punishment, which will deter anti-social elements from committing this offense. This marks the beginning of a move towards cheating-free examinations; in the future, all examinations will be free from malpractice.  An oath-taking ceremony will be held on Sunday as part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ (Drug-Free India Campaign).

Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani stated that the establishment of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University in 1987 was the result of a movement launched by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) to set up a university at the divisional level. Shri Purushottam Chaturvedi served as its first Vice-Chancellor. It began operations on the DAV College campus. Currently, 464 colleges are affiliated with it, and it has been awarded a B++ NAAC grade. A new Yoga University is also set to be established in Ajmer. He remarked that India’s universities are temples of knowledge, where the focus is on helping students define their life’s purpose and vision. The university’s achievements are reflected in the goals attained by its students. India possesses the world’s largest youth population; these young people desire systemic change rather than merely being spectators. Therefore, universities must become result-oriented and serve as hubs for research and innovation.

Water Resources Minister Suresh Singh Rawat expressed that being a student of Maharshi Dayanand University is a matter of pride, and serving the university as an MLA is a privilege. Ajmer has held special significance since ancient times, and Pushkar possesses a unique identity; the essence of the entire nation resides here.

The ceremony featured various inaugurations, launches, and foundation-stone laying events. These included the Ekalavya Bhavan, Valmiki Bhavan, 11 KV substation building, boundary wall, Pranjagya Bhavan, Maharana Pratap Bhavan, Vishwakarma Bhavan, the Centre for Rajasthani Language Studies, the university’s podcast room, the video conferencing room, and the university’s northern entrance gate. The university’s quarterly magazine, ‘Triveni’, was also released during the event, and the *Purnahuti* (concluding offering) of the Vedic *Havan* was performed. Additionally, a blood donation camp and a health check-up camp were inspected; an ECG center was inaugurated, and a tree plantation drive was carried out.
