Jaipur: The Jaipur South Police have achieved a major breakthrough by arresting an accused—who carried a reward of ₹5,000—for raping a young woman after ensnaring her in a romantic trap and subsequently blackmailing her by threatening to circulate an obscene video. The accused had evaded police custody for a long time, and a special team had been conducting continuous raids to locate him.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Rajarshi Raj (IPS) stated that the victim had lodged a complaint at the Shyam Nagar Police Station on July 11, 2026. According to the complaint, she had met the accused, Mahesh Gurjar, via WhatsApp about eight to nine months prior. After gaining her trust, the accused first got her to transfer ₹4,000 online and later summoned her to a hotel on Ajmer Road, where he raped her against her will. Following the incident, the accused continued to pressure the victim by threatening to ruin her reputation by leaking the video.Given the gravity of the case, a special team was constituted under the direction of Additional DCP Lalit Kishore Sharma and the supervision of ACP Satyendra Singh Negi, led by Shyam Nagar Station House Officer (SHO) Hari Singh Dudhwal. The team tracked down the absconding accused through technical analysis of the crime scene, examination of electronic evidence, and the use of an informant network. After persistent efforts, the police arrested the accused, Mahesh Gurjar. Further investigation into the matter is underway.The arrested accused, Mahesh Gurjar (31), is a resident of Dhani Badakan, Village Dalpatpura, Tehsil Neem-ka-Thana, District Sikar. A reward of ₹5,000 had been announced by the police for his arrest.
