Nearly 3.2 million elderly people have benefited so far
The State View, Jaipur (Sunil Sharma) Ramashraay Wards, a living example of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma’s sensitive thinking, have become a strong foundation for health security and respectful treatment for the elderly in the state. Ramashraay Wards (Geriatric Wards and Geriatric Clinics), launched in all district hospitals in the state on the Chief Minister’s initiative, are proving to be a unique gift of health for the elderly. Nearly 3.2 million elderly people have benefited from this humanitarian innovation so far.
*No hassles, no worries about treatment*
Ramashraay Wards have provided the elderly not only with treatment but also with respect, trust, and peace of mind. The need to repeatedly visit hospitals for treatment is no longer necessary. The availability of on-the-bed testing, sample collection, and reports has brought peace of mind to the elderly and relieved them of the cumbersome hospital procedures. Following the Chief Minister’s directives, under the guidance of Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar, Ramashraay Wards were launched in district hospitals across the state on March 14, 2024. The objective of this initiative is to provide dedicated, accessible, and respectful healthcare to the elderly, a result that is clearly evident in practice today.
*Statistics Tell a Story of Success*
Gayatri Rathore, Principal Secretary of the Medical and Health Department, stated that approximately 3.2 million elderly people have registered with Ramashraay Wards so far. Of these, approximately 3 million have availed of OPD services, while approximately 200,000 have received IPD services. Approximately 1.8 million lab tests have been conducted through these wards. Additionally, more than 44,000 patients have been provided with physiotherapy, and more than 8,000 elderly patients have been referred for advanced treatment.
*Specially Equipped Wards*
The Ramashraya wards have been designed to suit the needs of the elderly. Each ward has 10 Fowler beds, with equal accommodation for male and female patients. Curtains are installed between each bed, and a nursing alarm system is available for emergencies. Separate toilets have been constructed for male and female patients, including assistive devices such as grab bars.
*Physiotherapy and Modern Equipment*
Adequate arrangements for physiotherapy have been made in these wards. Modern equipment such as short-wave diathermy, ultrasound therapy, cervical and pelvic traction, and trans-electric nerve stimulators have been provided. Wheelchairs, trolleys, medicine cabinets, and other necessary furniture have also been arranged.
*Nodal Officer and Dedicated Staff*
A nodal officer has been appointed for each Ramashra ward, who oversees all the ward’s operations. Separate nursing staff and cleaning personnel have been deployed to care for patients. Specialist services are provided in the ward itself to elderly patients admitted to the IPD. Samples for testing are collected in the ward itself, and reports are provided on the bed.
*Geriatric Clinic for OPD*
Special arrangements have been made for geriatric clinics for the elderly in government district and sub-district hospitals. Separate facilities have also been provided for the elderly at registration counters, testing counters, and medicine distribution centers, so that they do not have to stand in long queues and can easily receive treatment.
*A Living Example of Sensitive Governance*
The Ramashraya Wards are not just a health scheme, but have become a symbol of the government’s sensitivity and social responsibility towards the elderly. This initiative proves that when compassion is integrated into policy, its benefits reach the most experienced segment of society with dignity.
