Cattle to be vaccinated under the campaign

Jaipur: Animal Husbandry, Gopalan, and Devasthan Minister Joraram Kumawat will launch the Lumpy disease vaccination campaign tomorrow, Wednesday, from the Shri Tijarti Sarrafan Gaushala in Beawar district. The campaign will commence at the Gaushala premises at 5:00 PM. The two-month-long drive aims to vaccinate cattle across the state. Minister Kumawat stated that under the sensitive guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the efficient leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, the state government is working with dedication towards animal welfare. He noted that Lumpy disease is a deadly, infectious ailment affecting livestock; it primarily impacts cattle, causing significant financial loss to livestock owners. The state has previously suffered the impact of this disease. Consequently, the government has taken several precautionary measures to control it, with vaccination and awareness drives being the key initiatives. Vaccination is a primary tool for prevention; hence, the state government has prioritized animal vaccination and is launching a two-month campaign starting tomorrow to curb the disease’s spread in a timely manner. Additionally, an awareness campaign will be conducted in rural areas to disseminate information about Lumpy disease.
Minister Kumawat stated that the vaccination drive would be executed in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Government of India for the control and prevention of Lumpy Skin Disease. Vaccination campaigns conducted over the past two years covered approximately 95 percent of the state’s cattle population, enabling timely control of the disease and resulting in negligible livestock loss. In the year 2025-26, 108.95 lakh cattle were vaccinated. Dr. Sureshchand Meena, the Department Director, stated that guidelines have already been issued regarding the necessary preparations for the surveillance, diagnosis, and control of the disease, as well as for formulating micro-level plans for vaccination at the district and block levels. In accordance with the district’s micro-level action plan, vaccination targets have been allocated to various institutions based on the number of cattle located within their respective operational areas. He noted that the ‘Ranchi strain’ of the homologous Lumpy Skin Disease vaccine will be used in the state for the first time. Following the Government of India’s recognition and authorization of the Lumpy Skin Disease vaccine, cattle in the state will now be vaccinated using this Ranchi strain.
