Minister-in-Charge Kumawat Participates in ‘Shramdan’ and Tree-Planting Programs in Ranigaon and Lunu Khurd
Conveying the Message of Public Participation in the ‘Vande Ganga’ Water Conservation Campaign Through Voluntary Labor

Public participation is essential for the conservation of ancient water sources, so that we may preserve the precious gift of water for future generations. To this end, efforts are being made to generate awareness among the general public through the ‘Vande Ganga’ Water Conservation Campaign. Joraram Kumawat—the Minister for Animal Husbandry and Minister-in-Charge for the Barmer district—stated this on Saturday while participating in programs organized under the ‘Vande Ganga’ campaign in Ranigaon and Lunu Khurd. Minister-in-Charge Kumawat emphasized that the revival of traditional water sources—such as ponds, anicuts, *beris* (small percolation wells), and open wells—is the need of the hour. He asserted that preserving this heritage bequeathed by our ancestors is a collective responsibility. He further stated that systems must be developed to ensure that “farm water stays on the farm, household water stays within the home, and village water stays within the village.” He underscored that water conservation is absolutely vital for securing a safe future for coming generations. He also proposed developing ‘Lohari Nadi’ as a model pond. Expressing concern over rising temperatures in the arid region, Minister-in-Charge Kumawat issued a call for extensive tree-planting efforts. While highlighting the public welfare schemes of the Animal Husbandry Department, he urged every individual to make it a mandatory practice to plant at least one sapling each year. Chouhatan MLA Adu Ram Meghwal stated that the State Government is fully committed to the development of the common people. Barmer district has been bestowed with significant gifts in the form of roads, water supply, and electricity, along with a substantial number of new Gram Panchayats. He emphasized that while pursuing development, it is equally vital to preserve our heritage; achieving this requires a collective effort from everyone. He further urged the community to keep alive the age-old tradition of harvesting and storing rainwater in traditional underground tanks (*tankas*). MLA Meghwal asserted that to realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Developed Nation by 2047,’ every individual—particularly those at the very last rung of society—must play an active and participatory role. Social worker Anant Ram Bishnoi stated that the general public must take positive initiatives toward water conservation. By saving every single drop of water, we can make a significant contribution to the cause of water conservation. He pointed out that if a tap is left dripping at the rate of just one drop per second, it results in the wastage of 11,000 liters of water over the course of a year. He noted that the tradition of conserving water has been an integral part of our culture for centuries, and it is imperative that we uphold and sustain this legacy. Social worker Deepak Karwasra remarked that the State Government is doing commendable work in the direction of reviving traditional water sources. He highlighted the innovative initiative undertaken at ‘Lohari Nadi’ as a prime example of water conservation efforts. This *nadi* (traditional water reservoir)—estimated to be nearly 2,000 years old—has historically served as a vital water source for several surrounding villages. Restoring it to its original, pristine state requires the concerted efforts of the entire community. The Minister-in-charge, along with other dignitaries, participated in tree-plantation drives at the ‘Dharmapuri ki Dhuni’ site in Ranigaon and within the premises of the Lunu Khurd Gram Panchayat. During the ‘Vande Ganga Water Conservation Public Campaign’ organized across the Ranigaon and Lunu Khurd Gram Panchayats of the Barmer Panchayat Samiti, public representatives, administrative officials, and villagers actively participated in *Shramdaan* (voluntary labor), sanitation drives, and tree-plantation programs, collectively pledging their active commitment to the conservation of water, traditional water sources, and the environment. During this event, Minister-in-charge Joraram Kumawat, Chohutan MLA Aduram Meghwal, and various other public representatives engaged in *Shramdan* (voluntary labor) at the Lohari Nadi complex, thereby inspiring the general public to join the water conservation campaign. The program commenced with a welcome address by former District Council member Ugam Singh, who also pledged active participation in the water conservation drive. Present on the occasion were Additional District Collector Rajendra Singh Chandawat, Saints Baldev Puri and Girdhar Puri, social workers Swarup Singh Khara, Devilal Kumawat, Mahaveer Singh Chuli, Ramesh Singh Inda, and Ishwar Chand Naval; Treasury Officer Jasraj Chauhan; Superintending Engineer Sura Ram Chaudhary; Hazari Ram Balwa; Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department Dr. Narayan Singh Solanki; District Supply Officer Kanwararam; Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Vishnu Ram Bishnoi; Assistant Conservator of Forests Chhotu Singh Bhati; Executive Engineer Akshay Panchal; Tehsildar Hukmichand; Deputy Superintendent of Police Buddharam Chaudhary; Development Officer Pradeep Inaniya; and the Administrator of Ranigaon Gram Panchayat, Kamal Kanwar—along with numerous other public representatives, departmental officials, and a large gathering of the general public. The proceedings of the program were anchored by Shyam Singh Rao. During the event held at the Lunu Khurd Gram Panchayat complex, Minister-in-charge Joraram Kumawat, Chohutan MLA Aduram Meghwal, and other dignitaries encouraged the public to commit to water and environmental conservation. On this occasion, the newly constructed water tanks (*Tankas*), built under the second phase of the Chief Minister’s *Jal Swavlamban Abhiyan* (Water Self-Reliance Campaign), were formally inaugurated.
