Governor and Chancellor Hari Bhau Bagde said that the convocation ceremony marks a new beginning in a student’s life.  He noted that a majority of the university degrees and gold medals awarded today were received by female students, which is highly commendable.  He added that when given the opportunity, girls prove themselves to be exceptional. The increasing interest of girls in agricultural education is a matter of great joy. The path to the nation’s prosperity is paved through agriculture.

Governor Bagde was addressing the 19th convocation ceremony of Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology at the RNT Medical College auditorium in Udaipur on Monday. He said that agriculture is the beginning and foundation of Indian life, with more than two-thirds of the country’s population directly or indirectly dependent on it. Life is impossible without food grains, but the increasing use of chemicals in food grains today is a cause for concern, leading to many diseases. We must ensure how to make chemical-free food available.

Governor Bagde said that there are many farmers in the state who are cultivating without any fertilizers. The demand for food grains is increasing, while arable land is becoming limited. Until the 1980s, the country had to import food grains, while today our grain reserves are overflowing. This is a historic achievement for the country in the agricultural sector.

Governor Bagde said that considering the needs of the growing population, we must work on increasing the production of nutrient-rich food grains. The use of millets (Shri Anna) has increased in India and abroad due to the inspiration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He told the students that in today’s era, not only a degree but also intellectual capacity, humility, and civility are necessary for employment. Government schemes to encourage farming with oxen and promote the dairy business are proving to be a great support for farmers. To make the country prosperous, villages must be made prosperous. The dream of a developed India by 2047 will be realized only through the efforts of the younger generation.  At the ceremony, Governor and Chancellor Bagde conferred 1,181 degrees across various faculties and awarded gold medals to 44 students.  Several advanced agricultural varieties developed by the university were also launched on this occasion.

Speaking at the ceremony, Agriculture Minister Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena said that young people cannot succeed simply by chasing after jobs.  He stated that, for the first time through the Bharat Krishi Sankalp Yatra (India Agricultural Resolution Journey), agricultural scientists have moved from the laboratory to the fields, and are now educating farmers on the ground about which fertilizers to use and in what quantities. He emphasized the need to control the indiscriminate use of chemicals and fertilizers to improve soil health and promote the use of bio-fertilizers. He warned that the blind pursuit of higher yields through excessive fertilizer use is gradually leading to a decline in production.
